Clipper Street House by Renato Jose, San Francisco, USA
Architect: RENATO JOSE | architect
Located in San Francisco’s Noe Valley, Clipper Street House is a contemporary renovation and extension that reinterprets the traditional residential architecture of the neighbourhood.
Designed by Renato Jose, the project introduces a third-floor addition while maintaining a harmonious relationship with the surrounding streetscape. The residence was adapted to accommodate a growing family, combining modern living spaces with a restrained architectural expression.
At the heart of the design is a sculptural staircase featuring open timber treads and glass balustrades. Extending through the house to a rooftop deck, the staircase allows natural light to filter between floors while preserving a sense of openness.
Large windows connect the interiors with the surrounding landscape, while the upper-level bedroom and outdoor terrace offer views towards San Francisco’s Twin Peaks.
With its clean lines, natural materials and carefully considered spatial organisation, Clipper Street House demonstrates how thoughtful architectural interventions can transform an existing urban residence.
